ProjectTools
It's important that we establish the use of a set of tools people are familiar with and that work together reliably. In my experience the needs of a community project are :
- Good documentation system for developing specifications, writing user notes, posting news of significant project events, and providing general information such as this wiki.
- CVS repository and CVS-view. While there are some healthy competitors, such as subversion, CVS is more widely adopted by developers and admin.
- Bug tracking
- Download areas
- Testing systems
- Mailing list - where the guts of people's ideas are fleshed out.
- Core working group, which have the time and interest to manage all of the above.
My vote at the moment goes something like this :
- Bioengineering Institute based plone portal for 1.
- Sourceforge for 2,3,4, and perhaps some of 5. An alternative to sourceforge for 3 is a Bioengineering institute based PloneCollectorNG instance.
- Bioengineering Institute based mailing list for 6 since we already have a CellML language mailing list hosted there.
- Interested and dedicated people for 7.
